About Me

My photo
I'm a quilting, knitting, sewing, cooking, reading, gardening nut who can never find enough hours in the day to get it all done. Then again, getting it all done is out-of-the question. I'm too easily distracted.

It's A Quilt Top!

Here is the baby quilt top I made with the bundle of fabric I showed in the last post---with the addition of a few fabrics from my stash:

I used a pattern I found on Pinterest from SewCraftyJess.
This pattern uses 3" strips, which I think worked out well with this fabric.
I ended up with a top that is approximately  50" square.  Not crib size, but then I rarely make quilts that small.
It will be next week, I think, before I get it layered and quilted (unless I get really motivated and do it tonight while I watch/listen to Bonnie Hunter on Quilt Cam!)
I'm thinking some straight line quilting is in order…nothing to fancy or complex.

TGIF

I love Fridays!  They always seem so wide open to me…The beginning of the weekend, the possibility of getting together with friends and having fun….and since I have declared it My Day Off I don't have to make dinner.
That leaves me lots of time to do what I like to do.
Like tend the garden:

That's my 5 foot Mortgage Lifter tomato plant to my right……

And this is my first large tomato of the year!

And this is some fun new fabric that is destined to become yet another baby quilt.
After staring at the fabric for more than an hour this morning I have finally decided what I am making and the cutting has begun.
Stay tuned…..

Baby Quilt Done!

The baby quilt I've been working on is finished !
(With the exception of the label)
I'm happy with the way it turned out, and I was very happy that yesterday was overcast enough that I could get a decent taken of it.
The pattern is Big Love by Nicole at Modern Handcraft.
The fabrics are the Mini Confetti Dots from Dear Stella.

The quilting was done by Helen Fleetwood and is a pantograph---I can't remember the name but I will find out and post that information when I have it.
The backing fabric is Kaffe print, one of my all-time favorite prints:
(I took this picture this morning..and it it a bit too bright to get a really good shot )

I'm glad to have this quilt finished….and now it's time to get on with the next one!
TTYL!

Scrappy Trips

Here is my un-bound Scrappy Trips quilt….pattern by Bonnie Hunter, quilting by Karen McDavid (I hope I spelled that right).
96" square, linen back.  Thrifted shirt fabrics for top.

I really, really need to put a hanger up on the barn or somewhere so that I can photo larger quilts better.
This one I had to lay on the ground…and I put a chair on top of a picnic table to get high enough to fit it into the viewfinder.

Not happy with the photo…its a much better looking quilt…and I love it!

Some Sewing Progress...

Last night I was able to get the binding strips cut for the baby quilt I have been working on.  This morning I got it sewn together and sewn onto the quilt.
I'd like to get right to sewing it down but I have work to do at The Farm for this weekend's party and I am going to a woman's self defense class tonight in Romeo.  So…this may have to wait till late tonight or early tomorrow morning.  Either way, I hope to be able to show you the finished project sometime tomorrow!

Wine….and Recycling

My passion for wine and my obsession with recycling led me to making this:

I hope the birds enjoy this as much as I enjoyed making it!

Loving That Orange!

I pieced this quilt a couple years ago, I think.
It was something I had seen at Guildcrafters in Berkley, Mi.
I'm not sure if it was done in these fabrics or not ( I can't remember what I had for dinner 2 days ago!)
but I was interested in a relatively quick quilt that would let me use the the bold, large print fabrics.

I pieced this while staying at The Harbor Star…I believe it was during an ice storm that closed the roads.  Lucky for us…we got an extra day's stay!

Another Non-Sewing Finish

Another Trash To Treasure project…..While heading out to the farmers market one Saturday a couple weeks ago my friend Claudette and I stopped to check a large pile of cast-offs in front of a home….and there just happened to be 2 bowling balls just waiting to be discovered.
I was pretty excited about this….because I've been wanting to do a project like this for a long time.
So…here it is.  I'm going to set it in the garden at the farm!

A Baby Quilt Flimsy

TWO posts in one day?  Unheard of in my world.
I just happened to get a quilt top pressed and it seemed the perfect time to take a pic, before it got covered with thread bits and wrinkles….

As usual, the basement fluorescent lighting washes out the colors….
It is most decidedly bright and bold shades of coral, scarlet, peony, tomato and pink, along with soft shades of shell, blush and white.  The print is a mini confetti dot.
I'll be working on the back and quilting in the next couple of days…and I hope to be able to show a finished quilt Very Soon!

Projects Other Than Sewing….

Yes……I have been keeping at least a little busy lately with non-sewing projects.
This is a crate that I found (in my usual way…)

I chose the number five for the number of people in our immediate family….
I couldn't go with a No. 1 or No. 2 because I knew eventually someone would make some bathroom-humor reference…….So 5 is was……
A little paint, a little stain…..and my plain old ugly crate was, more or less, transformed.

More later…..
